Trump's Irish Open Visit Sparks Protests and Potential Disruptions
US President Donald Trump is set to visit the Amgen Irish Open at his Doonbeg resort in Ireland, causing some disruption and protests. The tournament's director, Paul Gillmon, has been working with authorities for months to ensure a smooth visit.
The US president is expected to arrive on Saturday during play, which could impact the schedule of the $6 million event. Huge crowds are anticipated to gather in the small village near the resort to protest Trump's visit.
Rory McIlroy, who defended his Irish Open title last year and has played golf with Trump previously, acknowledged that the tournament will have a different feel this weekend. 'It's going to be different, but he's a big fan of golf and a wonderful supporter,' McIlroy said.
Eddie Pepperell also expressed reservations about Trump's visit on his podcast, The Chipping Forecast. 'We've already been warned that it's not ideal,' Pepperell said. With 75,000 fans expected through the gates, players have been told to prepare for possible disruption.
