TWG Global Taps Former Goldman Sachs Lawyer Amid Federal Investigation
US billionaire Mark Walter's holding company, TWG Global, has appointed David Markowitz as its chief legal officer. The move comes amid a federal investigation into Walter's business practices. Markowitz joins from Goldman Sachs, where he was global co-head of litigation and regulatory proceedings.
As part of his role at TWG Global, Markowitz will advise the company's leadership team on strategic priorities and long-term growth. This appointment is particularly significant given the federal investigation into how two insurance companies within Walter's business empire classified loans to other companies he owns.
TWG Global has investments in various industries, including financial services, AI, tech, sports, and media. The company owns stakes in the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, Chelsea FC, and the Cadillac F1 racing team. In a recent deal, Walter sold his controlling stake in the Los Angeles Lakers to Joshua Kushner and Bob Iger for $12.5 billion.
Markowitz has over 15 years of experience at Goldman Sachs, where he negotiated billions of dollars' worth of settlements related to the 1MDB corruption scandal. He also previously worked as a special deputy attorney general for investor protection in New York and an assistant regional director at the SEC.
