Twitch and Amazon Sued Over Alleged Use of Creators' Content in AI Training
Twitch and Amazon are facing a class action lawsuit over claims that they used creators' content to train generative AI models without permission.
The lawsuit, filed by plaintiff Warren Pandiscia, alleges that Amazon utilizes Twitch streams and videos to acquire AI training data at an unprecedented rate, rather than negotiating lawful licenses or seeking permission from content creators.
Pandiscia claims that the companies never obtain consent for using this content and are incapable of doing so. He also argues that content creators will not be able to recover their intellectual property once it has been unlawfully copied and used to train AI models.
Twitch's Chief Product Officer, Mike Minton, previously defended the company's recent opt-out setting, stating that if it were an opt-in system, nobody would participate. The lawsuit seeks to address these concerns and hold Amazon and Twitch accountable for their actions.
