Twitch Enables Default AI Training on Creator Content Without Consent
Twitch creators have discovered that their content is being used to train Amazon's AI. A setting in account security, 'Training for Generative AI,' was found to be toggled on by default, allowing Twitch to use channel content to improve generative AI models at Amazon.
The option allows Twitch to share creator audio with Amazon to refine models that create speech-to-text, which can help improve captions on the platform and across Amazon.
Twitch's chief product officer, Mike Minton, explained in a livestream that the default setting was chosen because 'if it was opt-in, nobody would opt-in.'
Creators who want to opt out of having their content used by Amazon can toggle off the 'Training for Generative AI' setting in their account security settings.
