Twitch Enables Default Use of User Data for Amazon's Generative AI

Twitch has quietly rolled out a feature that trains Amazon's generative AI content models on its users' channels. The setting, which allows channel content to train Amazon's AI models, is enabled by default and can be found in the Security and Privacy tab of user settings.

The 'Training for Generative AI' toggle must be manually disabled to prevent Twitch from using a user's channel content to train Amazon's AI models. However, this does not opt users out of Amazon using their channel content for other purposes, according to Twitch's Privacy Notice.

This move has sparked concerns among some users who feel that enabling such features by default is a 'slap in the face' for those who don't want anything to do with generative AI. The top post on Twitch's User Voice forums calls for all AI features to be optional and opted out of by default, with over 13,000 votes and 4,000 comments in support.

The growing presence of generative AI features has been met with increasing criticism, with some users expressing frustration at the lack of control they have over how their data is used. The feature has also sparked concerns about the potential for 'AI slop' to flood online platforms.
