Twitch Streamers Can Opt Out of Training Amazon's AI

Twitch streamers can now opt out of having their content used to train Amazon's AI systems, according to recent updates to the platform's account settings.

The change has been met with mixed reactions from creators, who are still unclear about when and how Twitch began using their content for this purpose.

Twitch Head of Community Mary Kish acknowledged that the change would provoke a negative reaction, while Head of Product Mike Minton stated that keeping the option to use content for AI training enabled by default was necessary, as 'no one would participate' in the process otherwise.

The update raises questions about how big tech companies handle user data and whether Amazon is the only company using Twitch's content for AI training. The Terms of Service, which have been in effect since March 2024, stipulate that users grant Twitch and its sublicensees the right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, distribute, and create derivative works from their content.
