U.S. Army Awards Sole-Source Contract to Boeing for Upgraded AH-64E Apaches
The U.S. Army plans to acquire up to 12 new AH-64E Apache helicopters from Boeing, according to a recent notice published by the U.S. Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama.
The contract, which is expected to be awarded on August 4, 2026, will cover the remanufacture of existing aircraft and dedicated work to manage and fix obsolescence in critical electronic components.
Boeing is the sole designer, developer, manufacturer, and systems integrator of the Apache aircraft, making it the only realistic source for the contract. The Army does not own a complete production-level technical data package, which includes detailed engineering blueprints and manufacturing instructions needed to build the helicopter.
The AH-64E represents a substantial leap over earlier Apache models, featuring advanced capabilities such as a 30-millimeter cannon, laser-guided Hellfire missiles, and networked digital systems that allow crews to control unmanned aerial vehicles directly from the cockpit.
