UK and Google Team Up to Cut Plane Contrails with AI
The UK government has partnered with Google to test the use of artificial intelligence in reducing vapour trails left behind by planes. The AI CityXchange project aims to reduce contrails, which contribute to climate change, over the North Atlantic.
The trial will utilize Met Office weather forecasts and Google's artificial intelligence to suggest alternative flight paths for some routes over the North Atlantic. This small tweak in flight paths is expected to have a significant impact on reducing vapour trails.
The project highlights the growing importance of collaboration between government agencies, tech companies, and environmental organizations in addressing climate change.
