UK Plans Law Requiring Tech Firms to Block Child Nudity Across Devices

The UK government plans to introduce primary legislation requiring major technology platforms to implement device-level protections against child safety online.

In June, the government gave Apple and Google three months to produce roadmaps for stronger operating-system protections. On September 8, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy stated that both companies had made significant commitments and progressed from blurring nude imagery toward blocking it on underage devices.

The UK is moving from a request to legislation after the government deemed that Apple and Google's proposals did not yet match the scale of the problem.
