UK Seeks New Jet Trainer to Replace Aging Hawks by 2030
The UK Ministry of Defence has initiated the procurement process for a new advanced jet trainer to replace the Hawk fleet, which is set to exit service by the end of 2030. The new aircraft will also serve as the display plane for the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows.
Boeing and Saab have identified BAE Systems as their UK industrial partner if the T-7A Red Hawk is selected. Other potential participants include Leonardo, Korea Aerospace Industries, and Turkish Aerospace Industries with its Hürjet advanced jet trainer.
The Ministry of Defence is placing strong emphasis on maximising participation by the British defence and aerospace industry, encouraging local industrial partnerships ahead of the competition. Companies interested in joining the technical dialogue have until 11 September 2026 to submit documentation.
