Uncovering Android's Hidden System Update Menu

Hidden within the settings of most Android phones is a secret menu that allows users to update their system services. This menu, known as 'System services', was introduced by Google as part of its Project Mainline and Project Treble initiatives in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

The System services menu can be accessed by navigating to the main Settings app and selecting the 'All services' tab. From there, users can tap on 'System services' to see a list of available updates for various system modules.

According to BGR's testing on a Google Pixel device, some of the system modules that can be updated from this menu include Adaptive Connectivity Services, Android AICore, and Device Health Services. Tapping on any one of these modules opens a secondary page where users can apply pending updates or remove recent updates.

It's worth noting that most of these modules can be updated in one tap, but the 'Mainline services' module requires a restart after updating. Additionally, Google maintains a page where users can see the release notes for these updates.
