Underwear Inspires Bedroom Makeover: A Moody Retreat Takes Shape

Vickiann Vachula, creator of My Crappy House, is known for documenting her home's gradual renovations and DIY projects. When she and her husband moved into their house in 2011, they gutted it to make at least half livable.

The primary bedroom was a neglected space with primer on the walls, no molding, and no decor. Vickiann describes it as 'an ugly place to sleep' that made her feel sad just looking at it.

With her husband away for a week, Vickiann saw an opportunity to surprise him with a bedroom redo. She had a long list of tasks, including patching holes in the walls, installing molding, and painting the ceiling and walls.

Vickiann brought a pair of soft-colored underwear to the paint store as a reference for the color palette she wanted. She chose three shades: Sherwin-Williams' 'Coquina', Benjamin Moore's 'Vintage Wine', and Sherwin-Williams' 'Sealskin'. The goal was to create a moody bedroom that would help her and her husband relax.

The installation of crown molding proved challenging, with odd angles making it difficult for Vickiann and her friend to complete the task. They had to patch gaps and work around the drying time of wood filler.
