Unimicron Faces Forgery Allegations Over 'Made in Taiwan' PCBs
Taiwan's Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office is investigating Nvidia supplier Unimicron over allegations of forgery. The company is accused of shipping Chinese-made printed circuit boards (PCBs) with 'made in Taiwan' labels, violating forgery laws.
The investigation comes after Taiwanese authorities searched Unimicron's headquarters and a factory, questioning 14 employees, including the general manager and deputy manager of the PCB business division. Four related witnesses were also questioned.
Bail has been set between $9,500 and $470,000 for five defendants, while the remaining 13 have been released. Unimicron stated it would fully cooperate with the prosecutors.
This investigation follows a recent crackdown on companies suspected of smuggling AI technology into China. Last week, US authorities announced they are losing around $19bn to $26bn in annual tariff revenue due to Chinese goods being transshipped through third countries to avoid import duties.
