United Airlines Cancels Denver Flyover Amid Community Concerns
A planned flyover by United Airlines in Denver to honor the victims of the September 11 attacks was canceled due to concerns from the community. The event, which would have featured a Boeing 777 escorted by four fighter jets, was scheduled for 9:03 a.m., the exact time hijackers crashed United Flight 175 into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
The flyover had been intended as a meaningful gesture to honor the memory of those lost within the pilot community. However, officials from the Office of Denver Mayor Mike Johnston expressed concerns that the formation could be surprising and potentially jarring for residents who were unaware it had been planned.
Despite the cancellation, United Airlines still plans to unveil a 9-foot-11-inch monument made from World Trade Center steel honoring the airline crew members aboard Flights 175 and 93. The monument is intended as a tribute to those lost in the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
