United Airlines has been dealing with the consequences of Boeing's delayed certification of the 737 Max 10. The airline ordered 167 of these aircraft, but they've been in storage for six years due to regulatory issues. United's CEO Scott Kirby said that the airline has 'a bunch' of lie-flat seats that it doesn't know what to do with, as they're not compatible with other planes.

The Boeing 737 Max 10 was initially supposed to start flying in 2020, but its certification is still pending. United expects to receive the first aircraft in summer 2027. Meanwhile, the airline has outfitted a subfleet of Airbus A321neo aircraft with premium economy options and new seats as part of its efforts to increase revenue.

The situation highlights the challenges faced by airlines and manufacturers when dealing with regulatory delays and changing market conditions.
