United Cancels 9/11 Flyover Over Denver After Community Backlash
A planned flyover by United Airlines in Denver to honor the victims of 9/11 was canceled on Friday due to concerns from the community. The event, which had been scheduled for 9:03 a.m., was intended to feature a Boeing 777 escorted by four fighter jets.
The airline stated that they will instead proceed with other events planned for the day, including the unveiling of a monument made from World Trade Center steel honoring crew members on Flights 175 and 93. The monument stands at 9 feet 11 inches tall.
Denver's Office of Emergency Management had previously alerted residents about the flyover, assuring them it did not signal an emergency. However, officials later confirmed that the event was canceled 'following concerns' from the community.
