United Upgrades Aging Boeing 777 Fleet with Modern Touches

United Airlines is working to modernize its fleet and cabin experience, including its aging Boeing 777-200s. The planes have an average age of about 27 years and still feature dated cabins and older technology.

I recently flew on one of the renovated 777 planes from Newark, New Jersey, to London in July. The plane I was on was first delivered in 1997, but the modern seats and large seatback screens with Bluetooth connectivity made it hard to tell.

The meals served on the flight were also a pleasant surprise. United's food has often been criticized for being unappetizing, but the chicken dish and breakfast pastry I had were surprisingly flavorful.
