UnitedHealth Exec Killer Pleads Guilty to Federal Stalking Charges

Luigi Mangione, a former data engineer and University of Pennsylvania graduate, has pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges related to the fatal shooting of UnitedHealth Group Inc. executive Brian Thompson in December 2024.

Mangione, 28, admitted to shooting Thompson outside an investor conference at a midtown Manhattan hotel and acknowledged that he knew his actions would place Thompson in fear of death or bodily injury.

The guilty plea is the first admission of wrongdoing by Mangione, who initially pleaded not guilty in both federal and state cases. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison for the federal charges and up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder in the state case.
