UnitedHealth Sells Florida Clinic Stake to TPG Amid Optum Restructuring
UnitedHealth Group has sold an ownership stake in some of its Florida WellMed clinics to private equity firm TPG. The transaction, which does not involve a complete exit from the state, is intended to support further investment and growth in Florida.
The affected clinics are part of Optum Health's WellMed business, which primarily serves older adults through primary care and affiliated physicians across Florida and Texas. UnitedHealth retains an ownership interest in the operations and will continue to provide high-quality care to patients.
Optum Health CEO Krista Nelson emphasized that this partnership will allow for additional investments and growth opportunities in Florida. She stated, 'We're not exiting Florida. In fact, this is actually an opportunity to make the right investments and be well-positioned for growth with a partner.'
