UnitedHealthcare Exec's Killer Pleads Guilty to Federal Stalking Charges

Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges related to the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024.

Mangione made a statement in Manhattan court, saying he emailed UnitedHealthcare with the intent to shoot Thompson and that he knew his actions would place Thompson in fear of death and bodily injury.

The incident was sparked by Mangione's experiences dealing with the American healthcare system as a patient with a back injury.

Mangione faces a maximum of life in prison and will be sentenced in December, although his defense is expected to argue that the federal charges trigger double jeopardy protections for the state court trial.
