UnitedHealthcare Killer Posed as Investor in Twisted Murder Plot
Luigi Mangione's twisted murder plot against UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has come to light. The killer posed as an investor to gain access to the conference where he would eventually shoot and kill Thompson.
Mangione, 28, pleaded guilty to two federal stalking charges that carry up to life in prison. He had been harboring resentment towards the health insurance industry due to his own experiences with severe back pain and navigating the complex system.
The motive behind the killing was revealed during a hearing in Manhattan federal court. Mangione stated that he used information from an email response to find Thompson's location, where he eventually shot him with a homemade weapon.
