United's Aging Boeing 777-200 Gets a Much-Needed Upgrade
I recently flew on a United Airlines Boeing 777-200 from New Jersey to London in basic economy. The plane I was on was delivered in 1997, but it had been renovated with modern seats and large seatback screens that made the flight feel much more modern.
The cabin had a 3x4x3 seat layout, which is a 10-abreast configuration with 17-inch-wide seats. While I found the seats to be comfortable with standard legroom, the cabin was dense and may feel cramped for taller travelers.
I was also impressed by the food, which had been lackluster on my previous United flights. The chicken dish and breakfast pastry I had were surprisingly flavorful, and the pacing of the meals was well done.
One of the standout features of the flight was the Bluetooth connectivity in the seatback screens. I was able to easily connect my AirPods and enjoy a wide range of entertainment options during the seven-hour flight.
