Universal CityWalk Rolls Out Branded Solar-Powered Trash Cans
Universal Orlando Resort has started rolling out solar-powered trash cans at its CityWalk area. These bins are identical to those recently introduced at Walt Disney World, which have been a topic of discussion among theme park fans this summer. The new trash cans at Universal feature the CityWalk logo on purple decals with neon artwork, a design choice that sets them apart from the plain brown cans used by Disney.
The technology behind these bins is also identical to that used by Disney. Built-in solar panels charge internal trash compactors, allowing each unit to hold significantly more waste before needing service. This reduces labor and minimizes overflowing containers on busy days.
However, Universal may face the same issues as Disney regarding guest confusion over how to use the new bins. A discarded cup was spotted next to one of the CityWalk cans, suggesting that some visitors may be struggling to figure out how to open them. This could lead Universal to consider releasing an instructional video or providing clear signage to help guests understand how to use the bins.
