Upstart CEO Discusses Company Strategy Amidst Rising Share Price
Upstart Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:UPST) has been in the spotlight this week, thanks to commentary from CEO Paul Gu at a major investor conference. Gu spoke at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia and Technology Conference on Tuesday, where he discussed the company's business strategy. According to Gu, Upstart's focus is shifting towards core personal loans, despite a weaker consumer backdrop and higher operating costs that may impact near-term results.
Gu also addressed the company's bank charter plan, calling it 'the largest discrete single project' undertaken in 2026. He noted that the investment currently functions as a cost center with no benefit this year, but is expected to pay off once the bank launches in early 2027.
