The US Air Force has given Boeing the green light to start serial production of its new JDAM LR guided bomb, which can hit targets over 550 kilometers away.

The $75 million contract for the procurement of BSU-111/B payload delivery modules is a key component of the Joint Direct Attack Munition Long Range (JDAM LR), a precision-guided bomb capable of traveling more than 300 nautical miles with a 500-pound warhead.

This development comes after Boeing invested nearly $100 million of its own funds into the program, paving the way for initial serial production of the munitions for the US Navy.
