US Air Force Selects First Base for Boeing F-47 Fighter
The US Air Force has selected its first base to operate the Boeing F-47 fighter, but the location remains classified. The contract was awarded to Washington-based Versar Inc., which will conduct an environmental impact review for a nearly $1.9 million, two-year contract. According to Air Force spokespersons, they declined to identify the site under review.
The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 requires agencies to complete an environmental review after certain actions, such as introducing a new aircraft on a military base. The launch of the EIS process indicates that the Air Force could move quickly to establish an F-47 operating base.
The timing is notable because Boeing won the contract to develop the Air Force's first sixth-generation fighter last year. The Air Force expects for Boeing to fly the first aircraft developed during the engineering and manufacturing development phase before President Donald Trump's term ends in January 2029.
