US Banking Sector Surges to New Highs as Q2 Earnings Exceed Expectations
The US banking sector saw significant gains on Tuesday, with Goldman Sachs Group (GS), JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM), and Bank of America Corp. (BAC) all reaching their highest prices in over a year.
The surge was driven by strong second-quarter earnings reports from the three major banks, which exceeded market expectations. Goldman Sachs posted record Q2 results, with revenue of $20.98 billion and earnings per share of $15.91. JPMorgan Chase also delivered impressive results, with trading revenue jumping 35% year over year to $12.1 billion.
Bank of America's Q2 earnings were similarly strong, with investment banking revenue climbing 50% year-over-year. The bank's CEO, Brian Moynihan, attributed the success to a 'very good environment' driven by AI-related financing and strategic deals.
