US Court Reverses Ban on Perplexity's AI Shopping Tools Used on Amazon
A US appeals court has overturned a ruling that temporarily banned Perplexity's AI-powered shopping tools from being used on Amazon's platform.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco determined that Amazon was unlikely to succeed in its claim that Perplexity's AI agents violated a federal computer-hacking law.
Perplexity's system, called Comet, uses agentic AI to browse and shop on behalf of users, with limited human oversight.
The lawsuit, filed by Amazon in November, accused Perplexity of covertly accessing private customer accounts through its browser and associated AI agent.
