US-Iran Tensions Send Oil Prices Soaring
US energy stocks, particularly Chevron CVX, have rallied as oil prices surged due to tensions between the US and Iran around the Strait of Hormuz.
Chevron shares rose by 2%, while Exxon Mobil XOM increased by 1.5%. Occidental Petroleum OXY and ConocoPhillips COP also saw gains, with increases of 1.8% and 1.3%, respectively.
The rise in oil prices was triggered by the US military's strike on Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island, which led to retaliatory attacks from Iran on US positions.
As a result, Brent crude prices rose above $90 per barrel, with an increase of over 2%.
The higher oil prices could positively impact energy producers' revenue and earnings expectations, but the ongoing conflict in the region poses a significant risk to the sector.
