US Manufacturing Boom: Volvo and John Deere Shift Production Stateside
Heavy equipment manufacturers are shifting their production to the United States, marking a significant trend in the industry. Volvo Construction Equipment has started building excavators and large wheel loaders at its Pennsylvania facility, while John Deere is moving excavator production from Japan to America after expanding its factory in Indiana.
The $70 million factory expansion in Indiana will enable John Deere to produce 'next generation' excavators, which were previously built in Japan. Volvo's new U.S.-made excavators are expected to reduce lead times for customers by more than six weeks. The Pennsylvania facility has been upgraded to accommodate the production of 30 machine models, with an additional 11 models set to move there.
Other major manufacturers, including JCB and SANY, have also grown their operations in the U.S. Caterpillar remains the world's top-selling construction equipment manufacturer, with several facilities serving as single-source locations for global sales.
