US Manufacturing Giants Thrive Amid Tariffs
The US manufacturing sector continues to thrive despite challenges posed by tariffs under former President Donald Trump. According to McKinsey's annual Supply Chain Risk Pulse survey, tariffs have emerged as the single dominant operational risk for industrial leaders.
Manufacturing Digital has identified the top 10 USA manufacturing giants, including General Motors, which employs over 97,000 people in the US and invests heavily in its domestic manufacturing footprint. The company has announced plans to invest over $830 million in three key propulsion sites across the US by April 2026.
Other notable manufacturers on the list include Boeing, Caterpillar, Tesla, and Intel, which have all made significant investments in their US operations. For example, Intel will receive a $8.9 billion investment from the US government to boost its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. The company plans to invest over $100 billion across multiple US states as part of the Chips Act.
Tesla is also expanding its presence in the US with plans to build a vertically integrated semiconductor manufacturing plant, Terafab, which will be supported by an initial investment of $16.8 billion.
