US Markets Slip on US-Iran Tensions, Nvidia Fuels Tech Gains
The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average fell on Monday as tensions between the US and Iran escalated over the weekend. The S&P 500 dropped 0.3% to 7,686.14 while the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted 0.7% to 53,185.90.
The Nasdaq 100, however, rose 0.1% to 29,456.97 as Nvidia Corp. announced a $3.5 billion investment in MediaTek Inc., supporting gains in the tech-heavy index.
Energy markets reacted sharply to the renewed conflict, sending oil prices higher. Domestic crude (WTI) climbed 2.83% to finish at $85.76 a barrel, while global benchmark Brent crude settled 2.71% higher at $90.49.
