US Open Celebrates 50 Years of Wheelchair Tennis with Thrilling Events
The 2026 US Open tennis tournament celebrated a milestone on Day Twelve, marking the 50th anniversary of Wheelchair tennis. The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center hosted the Wheelchair 50th Anniversary AmEx Takeover at the American Express Fan Experience.
Attendees enjoyed the celebration, which included a general view of the event's setup and photos of attendees enjoying the festivities.
In addition to the anniversary celebration, the para-standing invitational took place on the courts. The event featured athletes such as Léandre Villier, Thalita Rodrigues, and Kemit-Amon Lewis, showcasing their skills and dedication to the sport.
Another highlight of Day Twelve was the Champions of Equality panel discussion, moderated by Hoda Kotb, Kim Clijsters, Deborah Roberts, and tennis legend Billie Jean King. The event aimed to promote equality in sports and beyond.
