US Open Unveils AI-Powered Features for Enhanced Fan Experience

The US Open tennis tournament is set to become one of the most technologically advanced sports events this year, thanks to a collaboration between IBM and the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The partnership has led to the development of new AI-driven features that will enhance the fan experience during the 2026 US Open.

The new features include a redesigned Live Updates homepage, which personalizes match tracking around favorite players. This means fans can now prioritize their favorite players and surface the most relevant matches, storylines, and insights first.

Another key feature is Serve Quality, a metric that uses biomechanical tracking to score serve mechanics. This involves capturing 21 data points across a player's body and racquet, sampled 50 times per second, to generate a near real-time Serve Quality score. This score factors in efficiency, accuracy, consistency, and toss placement, giving broadcasters and fans a standardized way to compare serves.

The tournament's established Likelihood to Win feature has also been upgraded with the introduction of Key Moments. This tool identifies and explains the specific turning points, momentum swings, and pivotal exchanges that shape a match, providing context for why the odds shifted.
