US President Renames Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' Amidst Google Maps-Led Change
The US President has issued an executive order to rename Lake Ontario as 'Lake America' for users in the US. This move follows Google Maps, which made a similar change over the weekend. According to the President's post on X (formerly Twitter), Apple Maps has also changed the name of the lake.
However, not everyone is agreeing with the name change. Canadian officials have rejected it and will continue using 'Lake Ontario' in their official records. The Prime Minister pointed out that the name Lake Ontario is more than 400 years old and comes from the Wendat word Ontari'io.
MapQuest has also refused to rename the lake, posting a screenshot of the original name with the message: 'We're not changing it.'
