US Ryder Cup Qualification Shifts to Points-Based System for 2027
The Ryder Cup qualification system is undergoing another change for the third consecutive time. The US team will now use a points-based system, where players earn points throughout the year leading up to the 2027 matches in Ireland. Qualifying will start at The American Express in California and end with the BMW Championship at Liberty National in New Jersey.
The top six players in points will automatically qualify for the team, while Jim Furyk will make six captain's picks after the season-ending Tour Championship. Unlike previous systems, this new system no longer bases points on PGA Tour earnings, instead using a points distribution list that awards 3,000 points to major winners and 2,250 points to signature event winners.
Players cannot earn points from opposite-field events, which may affect their strategies for the season. The Ryder Cup will take place at Adare Manor in Ireland on September 17-19, 2027.
