US Stock Market Declines as Oil Prices Surge and AI Uncertainty Weighs on Sentiment
The US stock market experienced a decline on Monday due to rising oil prices and uncertainty surrounding investments in artificial intelligence. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.54%, while the S&P 500 dropped 0.80%. The Nasdaq Composite Index was the weakest, down by 1.03%.
The price of Brent crude oil surged above $109 a barrel, contributing to inflation concerns and weighing on sentiment. Additionally, the 10-year Treasury yield reached around 5%, affecting growth stocks. AI executives' calls for a slower pace of advanced AI development unsettled chip investors, with Nvidia down by 3.7%.
Cybersecurity stocks performed well, however, with CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks rising by 12.31% and 10.91% respectively. Asian technology and semiconductor stocks were particularly vulnerable due to the uncertainty surrounding AI investments.
