US Stock Market Plunges Amid Sector-Wide Losses
The US stock market closed lower on Wednesday, led by losses in the Dow Jones Telecommunications, Consumer Services, and Industrials sectors.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.77% to hit a new one-month low, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.48%, and the NASDAQ Composite lost 0.64%.
The biggest gainers on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were International Business Machines (IBM), which rose 3.38% or $7.85 to trade at $239.94, Chevron Corp (CVX) added 1.91% or $4.01 to end at $213.81, and JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM) was up 0.34% or $1.20 to $354.71 in late trade.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Meta Platforms Inc (META), which rose 6.55% to $653.69, Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO) was up 5.35% to settle at $983.19, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (HPE) gained 5.12% to close at $58.90.
