US Stocks Closed for Labor Day, Most Retailers Open
Labor Day 2026 is being observed across the United States on Monday, September 7. The federal holiday honors American workers and marks the unofficial end of summer.
While government offices, banks, schools, post offices, and the US stock market are closed, most major retailers, supermarkets, pharmacies, and restaurants remain open.
Walmart, Target, Kroger, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, CVS, and many other businesses are operating on Labor Day. Several retailers are also running sales in categories such as electronics, furniture, appliances, home improvement, clothing, and outdoor products.
The US stock market, including the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite, will not have regular trading on Monday, September 7, but will resume on Tuesday, September 8. Microsoft's physical stores are permanently closed.
