US Stocks Slide as Key Sectors Weigh on Markets
US stock markets ended lower on Monday after losses in key sectors like Industrials, Basic Materials, and Utilities.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 0.29%, while the S&P 500 index dropped 0.48% and the NASDAQ Composite lost 0.56%.
Among the biggest gainers on the Dow Jones was Salesforce Inc., which rose 4.73% to $259.43, followed by International Business Machines at 2.38%, or $5.80, to end at $249.09, and Microsoft Corporation up 1.97%, or $9.78, to $505.41.
On the other hand, Caterpillar Inc. declined by 4.22% to trade at $784.00 in late trade, followed by Goldman Sachs Group Inc., down 3.96% or $40.73 to end at $988.45 and NVIDIA Corporation shed 3.37%, or $7.36, to $210.94.
The top performers on the S&P 500 included CrowdStrike Holdings Inc., which rose 13.85% to $235.38, Palo Alto Networks Inc. up 13.09% to settle at $373.94 and Gartner Inc. gained 9.73% to close at $197.07.
The worst performers on the S&P 500 were Corning Incorporated down 13.70%, or $143.60 in late trade, Teradyne Inc., which lost 13.30% to settle at $329.22 and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. was down 10.77% to $55.41 at the close.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery declined by 1.59%, or $70.06, to $4,338.84 a troy ounce, while Oil futures rose 1.93%, or $1.93, to hit $101.98 a barrel and the November contract increased by 1.58%, or $1.65, to trade at $106.26 a barrel.
