US Stocks Surge as Middle East Tensions Ease, Crude Oil Prices Plummet
The US stock market saw significant gains on Monday as tensions in the Middle East eased.
The S&P 500 Index rose 1.48%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 1.32%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index climbed 1.78%.
The rally was attributed to lower crude oil prices, which fell more than 5%, and a decrease in inflation expectations, leading to lower bond yields.
New York Fed President John Williams' dovish comments also contributed to the market's upward movement, as he stated that interest rates remain well-positioned and inflation should ease during the second half of the year.
The strong Q2 earnings outlook, with forecasts suggesting a 23% increase, was another bullish factor for stocks. AI spending is expected to account for most of the earnings growth in Q2, with AI infrastructure stocks set to contribute nearly 60% of the S&P 500's earnings-per-share growth.
However, not all sectors performed well, as energy stocks and service providers declined due to the slump in crude oil prices. Despite this, many prominent companies, including Meta Platforms, Amazon.com, Microsoft, Alphabet, Tesla, Nvidia, Oracle, and others, saw significant gains on Monday.
