US Stocks Tread Water Amid Middle East Tensions and Data
US stock indexes showed little change on Friday as investors weighed Middle East tensions and data. The market had been volatile, but managed to remain relatively stable despite some fluctuations.
The S&P 500 rose 0.11% to 7,807.65, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.07% to 26,822.61. However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 21.14 points, or 0.04%, to 53,818.85.
The market's performance was influenced by various factors, including retail sales data for July, which showed an increase of 0.2% in June. This data followed mild inflation figures earlier in the week that eased concerns about a Federal Reserve rate hike in September.
Bob Lang, founder and chief strategist at Explosive Options, stated that the market's expansion was a positive sign, saying 'It's good to see an expansion in the markets here with broadening out, not just hiding out in hyperscalers like Microsoft and Nvidia.'
