US Visa Policies Shift: Morocco's Talent Faces Increasingly Restrictive Environment
The United States' visa policies are undergoing significant changes that affect Moroccan talent. The path to studying at an American university, attending international conferences, or reuniting with family members is no longer as predictable for Moroccans.
In the past, the US immigration system was challenging but manageable for those willing to invest time and resources. However, the current environment has become much more restrictive.
The number of visitor-visa refusals for Moroccan nationals nearly doubled in a single year, from 14.45% in fiscal year 2024 to 26.91% in fiscal year 2025. This is a significant increase, despite Morocco not being included in the US formal travel ban or required to post visa bonds.
The adjusted refusal rate measures the proportion of applications that ended the fiscal year in refusal, accounting for those that were initially refused but later overcame the hurdle. Consular officers evaluate each application based on the applicant's purpose, finances, employment, family circumstances, and ties to Morocco.
