UTSA AD Lisa Campos Wins National Award for Trailblazing Leadership
UTSA Athletic Director Lisa Campos has been recognized for her outstanding leadership in college athletics. She was named Sandy Barbour Nike DI FBS Athletic Director of the Year by Women Leaders in Sports, an honor that caps off a remarkable year. In addition to this award, Campos also received the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics' Athletics Director of the Year award at the 61st annual NACDA & Affiliates Convention in Las Vegas.
Campos credits her parents for their sacrifices and support throughout her career. Her mother, Rose, would often sell tamales to supplement their income so that Lisa could participate in basketball camps. Campos' father, Joe, encouraged her to pursue higher education despite the financial challenges they faced.
As a first-generation college student, Campos worked hard to earn her degrees and eventually became an athletic director herself. She is one of only two Latina athletic directors in Division I and has been a trailblazer for women and minorities in college athletics.
