Uzbekistan Offers Visa-Free Entry to Indians Amid Growing Air Links
Uzbekistan has announced that Indian citizens will be eligible for visa-free entry into the country, effective from an unspecified date in 2026. The move was confirmed by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to the nation on August 29-30.
The new policy allows Indians to stay in Uzbekistan for up to 30 days without needing a visa or e-visa, simplifying travel plans for Indian tourists and business visitors. The decision is seen as a positive step towards deepening tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Uzbekistan's growing air links with India, with around 14 direct flights per week, are expected to complement the new entry rules in attracting more Indian travelers to the region. The two governments have also signed a Tourism Cooperation Programme spanning 2026-2028 to further enhance exchanges between the countries.
Travelers can explore Uzbekistan's rich Silk Road heritage, including its grand monuments, old quarters, and cultural institutions like the Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture. However, visitors are advised to be cautious about food options, as some traditional dishes may contain meat stock even if they appear vegetarian.
