Venezuela Inks Historic Oil Deals with Chevron, Eni, and Other International Giants
Venezuela has announced sweeping oil agreements with major US and international companies, marking a significant shift in the country's energy sector. The deals, which have been described as 'historic' by Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez, include long-term contracts with Chevron and Italy's Eni.
The agreements aim to develop new oil fields, known as 'green fields', which Venezuela has not tapped into for decades. Chevron will receive additional acreage in the Orinoco Belt and has unveiled a $7-billion investment plan over five years to increase production by more than 100% to around 600,000 barrels per day.
US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright hailed the agreements as 'a massive win' for both the US and Venezuelan people. He emphasized that the deals will bring in much-needed technology and funds to extract underground resources and support homegrown production.
While some critics have labeled the deal 'gunpoint diplomacy', Wright maintained that it is a partnership aimed at stabilizing Venezuela's chaotic economy and drawing capital from abroad.
