Venmo Now Live on Google Play: Apps, Games, and Subscriptions Get a New Payment Option

Google Play has officially added Venmo as a checkout option for users. This move allows shoppers to pay for apps, games, and subscriptions using their Venmo balance or linked bank accounts and credit/debit cards.

The rollout matches Google's own announcement and is seen as a way to tap into the spending habits of Gen Z and Millennial crowds who treat games and subscriptions as social experiences. According to Alexis Sowa, Venmo's general manager, 'Google Play powers so many of the digital experiences that millions of people share every day.'

To link a Venmo account, users can select it from the payment methods screen inside the Play Store. Once connected, Venmo will appear as an option at checkout alongside other payment methods like cards and PayPal.

The integration also allows users to keep their familiar Venmo feed, which can include notes and reactions for game purchases. This feature is a result of Venmo's redesign earlier this year, which made payments more private by default.
