Vermont Man Leaves Lasting Legacy After 22 Years with IBM

Tommy Banfield, a devoted husband and father of four, passed away on September 2, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Berlin, Vermont, on August 26, 1937, Tommy spent most of his life in the state. He graduated from Montpelier High School before marrying his wife Althea Jewett on September 10, 1958.

Tommy worked as a Department Lead Technician at IBM for 22 years, earning multiple suggestion awards and serving as President of the IBM Club during his tenure. In his free time, he enjoyed outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, golfing, and bowling.

The family is grateful to Dr. Jennifer Gilwee, Dr. Waqar Waheed, and the caregivers at the McClure Miller Respite House for their care and support. They are accepting donations in Tommy's name to the American Diabetes Association, McClure Miller Respite House, or the American Parkinson Disease Association.
