Veteran and IBM Engineer Richard T. Bialek Dies at 92
Richard T. Bialek, a veteran and IBM electrical engineer, passed away on September 7 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, surrounded by his family.
Born in Buffalo, New York, in 1934, Richard served as a radar operator in the U.S. Navy during the Cold War, guarding the East Coast with blimps and later patrolling the DEW Line airships.
After leaving the military, he used the GI Bill to study electrical engineering at the University of Detroit, graduating in 1962. He then spent 31 years working for IBM in the Hudson Valley.
Richard was an avid fisherman and gardener, enjoyed traveling with his family, including a trip to Poland, and was involved in various community activities, including volunteering with the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and the Hyde Park Swim and Tennis Club.
