Veteran Couple Credits Long Life to Hard Work and Socializing
John Carroll and his wife Jerry are celebrating their 80-year marriage milestone. John, a World War II veteran, is 101 years old, while Jerry is 100. They live independently in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, with the help of their family.
The couple shared five tips for a long life during an interview with Today.com. According to John, working hard and eating well are key factors in his longevity. He also emphasized the importance of regular doctor visits, stating that he goes twice a year.
John and Jerry enjoy good food and often eat out at restaurants. Their favorite dishes include country-style steak, fried chicken, and turkey with turnip greens and salads. They even have McDonald's for breakfast every Friday, where they order sausage McMuffins with eggs and coffee.
The couple attributes their long life to maintaining their independence and staying active. John uses a walker, while Jerry uses a cane. Despite this, they both try to stay mobile by walking around the house or doing simple exercises like touching their toes in the morning.
